In the spirit of Valentine’s Day quickly approaching and knowing that there will be lots of floral bouquets being ordered across the next few days, we thought we would offer our readers a spotlight on our Top 5 Favorite Valentine’s Day Flowers. This should make ordering your flowers a lot easier. Now, the flowers we’ve highlighted either typically come in or are known for their shades of pinks and reds (which are traditional for the holiday) so that is the color we would recommend ordering them in even if there are other options. However, there are certain circumstances on Valentine’s Day when ordering a color outside of red and pink, like the color white would make sense. Also, if you are less of a traditionalist, flowers are flower to some degree so any color will do! However, our suggestion would be to stick with tradition and go with pink or red!

  1. Tulips: These flowers always offer a very modern feel when it comes to any Valentine’s Day flower arrangement. Despite being such a modern flower, tulips actually date back to the 16th century in Eastern Europe and were first found in the U.S. towards the end of the 19th century. They are some of our favorite flowers at Nosegay D.C. flower shop so we celebrate them a lot outside of Valentine’s Day as well.
  2. Roses: Now you can’t talk about Valentine’s Day and love without talking about roses. We’d recommend sending these flowers for traditional romances and to really express your love. Remember, every color rose has a different meaning so if you want to say “I love you” make sure to send red ones. The main reason why the red rose has become synonymous with Valentine’s Day is because the rose is often referenced in romantic poetry, songs and paintings therefore, forever linking the two.
  3. Orchids: The great news about orchids for Valentine’s Day is you could be enjoying them into March and remembering your awesome holiday because of how long they last. They will definitely outlast your traditional flower bouquets, however, they will likely require a bit more money when it comes to ordering flowers online. Remember, the care of an orchid changes during the colder months so make sure to keep your plant warm and hold back on watering.
  4. Stargazing Lilies: These are some of the most beautiful and radiant flowers when it comes to putting together a bold group of flowers. Keep in mind that these types of flowers come with a strong and lovely fragrance. They are a hybrid of the of lilies that our readers are probably most familiar with. They often come in white and pink which we think is just fine when it comes to celebrating the holiday on Saturday.
  5. Peonies: Now we’ve talked about peonies on our blog before because we absolutely love them. The great news is they go so well with the colors of Valentine’s Day because they are most often found in white, pink or red. The red color is more rare but definitely worth pursuing when it comes to celebrating this year. The peonies has a ton of fans as it is traditional floral symbol for China but also the state flower of Indiana since 1957.

We’d also like to offer our readers some last minute words of encouragement and advice when it comes to Valentine’s Day. Our biggest piece of advice for those of you in a couple is make sure to celebrate in some way. I know there are a lot of people out there that think Valentine’s Day is a corny holiday but I think you will find you are more upset on the day about not celebrating than you thought you would be. Also, keep in mind that your partner wants some sort of public display of affection for Valentine’s Day...the easiest way to do this is to send them Valentine’s Day flowers. Especially to their office so that all their co-workers and friends know they are loved. Now for our single readers, make sure you celebrate too! You will be a lot happier if you aren’t sitting around home alone on Saturday night and if you are out with some friends. Find a group of single friends and paint the town red that night!

Hope everyone is gearing up for a lovely Valentine’s Day. We know it’s still a few weeks away but you don’t want to wait too long to get organized. Whether you are in a relationship or not this year, it’s important to know what gifts to be giving. We thought we would give our readers some suggestions when it comes to gift giving this year. We have options for both men and women as it’s important that each member of the relationship gets an awesome gift. Enjoy our suggestions!

Women

  • Jewelry. Hate to break it to everyone out there but you really can’t go wrong with jewelry this year. Doesn’t need to be anything fancy or covered in diamond but it’s an easy way to say “I love you” and I want you to wear this and think of me. Did we mention that women love diamonds?
  • Something mushy. This is the one time of year when it’s appropriate to be mushy and make your emotions known. Take advantage of it! Get something engraved, buy something that already says it...whatever it is make sure your emotions come through with your gift.
  • Go somewhere together. Is there something you’ve been meaning to do together but haven’t gotten around to it? Like maybe a cooking class or a wine tasting? This is the perfect way to give a great gift that you both get to enjoy.
  • FLOWERS. Now we can’t talk about Valentine’s Day without mentioning the elephant (I mean bouquet) in the room and that’s flowers! There are so many beautiful Valentine’s Day flower options and luckily the majority of D.C. flower shops have same day online flower delivery. However, we suggest planning in advance and picking out the perfect bouquet.
  • Time for the spa. Every girl loves a good spa day. Maybe it’s just a manicure and maybe it’s a full blown day at the spa with a massage and everything else she could want. And if you really want to make it special...join her!

Men

  • Gadgets, gadgets, gadgets. Men love a good piece of technology. Don’t under appreciate their reaction to the coolest new ipad, speakers, or anything else they have been talking about. Did we mention wireless headphones?
  • What do they like to drink? There are many different ways to say “I love you” based on what they like to drink. For example, maybe it’s a a new glass to drink his whiskey in, or special ice cubes (you know what we are talking about) to keep his drink cool or maybe it’s just a bottle of whiskey or nice wine. Whatever it is we know your guy will love it. Don’t forget about the flask option! Get it engraved and make it extra special.
  • The way to his heart is in his...stomach! Ever heard that saying before? So have we! Men love a nice dinner and especially when it’s cooked by their loved one. Maybe Valentine’s Day this year is more about the meal you prepare than the gift you give. Not good in the kitchen? No problem! Head to one of the amazing new restaurants in D.C.
  • Does he have a hobby? Start with what it is and go from there...maybe it’s more running gear, or new golf shoes, whatever it is you can’t go wrong if it’s for something he already loves to do.
  • Time to escape! All men love to get away so maybe for this year’s holiday you take that trip that you’ve been talking about for months. Doesn’t need to be anywhere fancy...maybe it’s just a quick one night road trip but either way it’s a special way to celebrate.

Now remember this upcoming Valentine’s Day to think of Nosegay flower shop when making your flower orders. Never too early to start planning!

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day this Friday, we thought we’d spend a little time giving you the different meanings of each color of rose. Ever wonder why they come in so many different colors? Well, it’s for a reason! They all have a special meaning and different purpose. As our readers prepare for Valentine’s Day on Friday, it’s not just about giving red roses to the ones you love. There are lots of different rose colors that deserve love too! We’ll start with the obvious as you think about roses Washington DC...

Red Rose: All things love come back to the red rose. This famous color has become synonymous with love, romance and Valentine’s Day. However, be careful guys when you’re sending flowers...any red roses offered on Valentine’s Day mean a proposal of love so don’t give it unless you mean it!

Pink Rose: Now this rose is more appropriate for the couples out there that aren’t in the love phase but just “thinking” of each other. It symbolizes grace, elegance and overall admiration. They are great roses to send to say “thank you” as they are an expression of gratitude.

Yellow Rose: Perfect rose to send out this Valentine’s Day for all your friends. These roses are often sent to say “get well” but more often stand for friendship. If you ever have a friend that is feeling down, send these as a “cheer me up.” Be aware girls! If a guy you like sends you yellow roses...accept them but know that he means friendship.

White Rose: This is the rose you’ll see most commonly in bridal bouquets as they symbolize purity, peace and spirituality. A little history lesson about this color rose is that white roses used to be the symbol of true love before red roses became the staple. Oh, how times have changed!

Orange Rose: Similar to the actual color, it’s most closely associated for passion just like the blazing sun. It stands for desire and enthusiasm.

Hope you enjoyed our quick stories of all the different colors of roses and what they mean. Don’t forget all their different meanings when you order flowers online this Friday. Be careful the next time you order roses for someone because every colors has it’s own meaning. Enjoy!

It’s that special time of year…Valentine’s Day! We want to make sure our Nosegay family is armed with the perfect amount of information to prepare for celebrating this holiday. Now, of course, like every other Valentine’s Day, it is sure to be filled with lots of chocolates and flowers for Valentine’s Day. We thought we would step outside the flower box for a bit and talk through other ideas for celebrating the holiday. Here are 5 simple steps when it comes to finding the best Valentine’s Day Gift.

  1. Make it about your loved one. There is no such thing as the perfect gift for your loved one. Make sure any gift you get is about them and not the latest and trendiest item. This holiday is romantic for a reason and any gift will mean a lot more if it relates to something their interested in or something you both can enjoy together.
  2. The gift can be your date. Couples often find it hard to prioritize each other during the week whether it’s because of their busy schedules, time with the kids, or anything else that can make Monday-Friday not romantic. Were lucky this year with Valentine’s Day falling on a Friday. Celebrate it together that night or weekend and make that your gift. Whether it’s hiring a babysitter for the evening and trying that restaurant you’ve been dying to eat at or taking a mini road trip that weekend to get out of town, planning something special will go a long way with your loved one.
  3. Talk before the 14th about how much you’re celebrating. Or more importantly, how much you’re spending. Valentine’s Day celebration never turn out good when one partner spends an extravagant amount and the other one made a mixtape (which I guess nowadays is the equivalent of a Spotify playlist). Make sure you both are on the same page of what the plans are, who is planning what, and what level of gifts you’ll be exchanging.
  4. Be romantic. If you’re lucky enough to have someone to celebrate this holiday with, take advantage of it! Don’t let the holiday pass over you without celebrating in some way even if it is just sending flowers.
  5. Our final piece of advice is don’t feel like you can only celebrate Valentine’s Day if you’re in a couple. It’s always fun to send Valentine’s Day cards to close family and friends to let them know you’re thinking of them and vice versa.

Hope you enjoyed our Valentine’s Day piece this week and there is more to come on this special holiday! Remember, don’t procrastinate figuring out what you are doing or how you are celebrating. However, the good news is if you do procrastinate there is always same day flower delivery
